About the Book

Climate change has emerged as one of the most pressing challenges of the twenty-first century, profoundly influencing ecological systems across the globe. Among the most vulnerable and vital of these systems are forests complex, dynamic ecosystems that sustain biodiversity, regulate climate, secure livelihoods and maintain ecological balance. The edited volume Climate Change and Forest Ecosystems is conceived as a scholarly contribution to the growing body of interdisciplinary research that seeks to understand, analyze, and respond to the intricate relationship between climate change and forest environments. Forests play a crucial role in mitigating climate change by acting as carbon sinks, moderating hydrological cycles, conserving soil, and supporting millions of species. At the same time, they are highly sensitive to climatic variations. Rising temperatures, erratic precipitation patterns, increased frequency of extreme weather events, forest fires, pest outbreaks, and land-use changes are transforming forest landscapes worldwide. According to assessments by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, climate-induced stress on forests is expected to intensify in the coming decades, with profound consequences for biodiversity, ecosystem services, and human well-being.
